Drawings & Variations

As you may know, i draw to meditate. I usually do this in the form of Zentangle. While this is not true zentangle, it is very helpful in my “reset” process.

I finished the drawing…here is the original:

Then, I got the notion to play with the image, here’s variation #1:

Here’s variation #2. Of all of them, I dig this one the most:

Cityscapes – Cee’s fun foto challenge

Here is the link to play along:

As usual, it’s damn near impossible for me to find just one piece to submit for these fun little challenges.  So, I’ll submit several.  I hope my submissions meet the expectations of the readers.

I have lived in so many different cities, it’s hard to say what would be a good fit.  I submit for your approval, cityscapes and structures:

Funny story about the Gateway to the West arch; I took this while driving 65 MPH down the freeway, leaning over and just snapping my camera nonstop.  Remember, this was in the days of film, so 36 exposures was the max you got on a roll.  I prayed that I got at least one good shot, and I did!

This is an old city scape structure.  I used to pass this daily as I would walk to the bus stop.  I lived in New Kensington, PA at the time. As you can see, this building was painted over MANY times.  It always intrigued me, the different advertisements.

I believe this is the Opera house in SF, CA. I really liked the oval on the top, it reminded me of a thumbprint.

Wide view of Seattle, WA.  Note, this was before the wheel went in.  I would submit a space needle photo, but it’s been over-done.

I don’t know if my little town of Monroe counts as a city scape, but honestly, it’s about as close to a city as I want to get.

Another shot done in Seattle; I really liked the message on this wall:

Took this on a trip to SF, CA; probably one of my favourite shots because, well I got the cable car dead centre. Plus, there are soo many squares!

Am I Blue?

1909474_57615524858_7268_nnnp

A long time ago, I painted this. I panted this back when I was just starting to get my so-called sea legs. I was always sad, and was having a really hard time fighting depression. The good that came out of it, was that it brought me a lot of inspiration.  While I hate the downfall of what it does to me, I love the expression I get from it.

Somewhere along the way, I saw something quite similar to this drawing.  Inspiration comes from everywhere, so I decided to mimic it.  While the idea is not my own, I will say, that 100% without a doubt, this is MY painting.  I spent many hours making it right. It may seem a very simple piece, but in all actuality, I was going thru a lot and so it was not.  I originally painted it in red, but changed it up a bit and put it in blue. Ah, the technological marvels that is photographic editing software.

While I am not so blue any more, this piece is a good reminder of how easy the fall is into depression.  The trick is to not let it consume you.  While I’ll never be completely rid of my mental illness, but I’ve learned to cope without medication.  Expressing myself thru my art is a huge help.  If you suffer from depression, anxiety, bi-polar, please, keep fighting. It’s a tough fight, but don’t give up.

Missing the Ocean

Missing the Ocean

Today, I miss the ocean. I miss its beauty, its vastness, its overwhelming ability to bring joy and peace into my life, and reset my psyche. There’s something forgiving, and restorative about becoming one with the earth, where the sea kisses its shores.

Posting this for the fun foto challenge for Cee’s blog. Love playing along, but the site won’t let me do what I need. So click this link if you want to play along.

Ice

I’ve always thought there was something intriguing about the way ice forms.  It goes off in its own special direction, follows its own pattern, and always goes where we don’t necessarily want it to.  What I present to you today is what I saw just off in the frozen garden in front of my house.  I stepped ever so slightly on the edge, where the grass meets the cement, and it was deceiving to me to feel that the grass was actually lower than what it appeared, simply because the ice had formed and made the grass stuck in a perpetual state of straightness.  When I looked closer, this is what I saw.

While I admit I did in fact play with the images just a little bit, you can still see just what I”m talking about.  To me, the ice looks like little tiny water falls.
